5 Reasons to Add a Magnetic Knife Holder to Your New Kitchen Instead of Using a Wooden Holder

There are plenty of things to consider when you're creating a new kitchen or remodelling an old one, so the type of knife holder you use might be a consideration placed on the back-burner. However, you should really think about throwing away your old-fashioned wooden holder and having a magnetic one fitted instead. Once fixed along a wall, these hold your kitchen knives magnetically; all you have to do if you want one is pluck it away.

They come with several advantages over the traditional wooden holder, and here are just five.

1. Promotes Hygiene

People often fail to think about how the way they store their knives affects hygiene, but this is an important consideration since knives are typically used to cut food that then heads straight to your mouth. A wooden knife holder is a little less hygienic since any moisture left on the knife when you slip it in will be absorbed. This can lead to the development of bacteria, something made more likely by the lack of light able to penetrate into the holder.

2. Saves Time

It's not exactly the end of the world to pull out the handle of one knife and find it isn't actually the one you were looking for, but it sure is annoying. That annoyance is eliminated with a magnetic holder since the blade isn't concealed. It's also a lot easier to reach up and simply grab the knife off the wall.

3. Saves Space

Probably the most compelling reason to fit a magnetic knife holder instead of using an old-fashioned wooden one is that you'll save counterspace. In general, kitchen counterspace is at a premium; as well as needing it to take small appliances, you'll need to keep plenty of counterspace free for meal preparation. Wooden holders take up quite a lot of that space, so why not move that storage to a wall using a magnetic holder? Wall-space is typically underutilized.

4. Prevents Damage

It takes quite some time for the edges of kitchen knives to become dulled, but you will eventually find yourself slicing through steak and chopping through veg a little less smoothly than you used to. Using a magnetic holder can prevent dulling since the edge is sliding against wood every time you remove or replace the knife.

5. Looks Great

Finally, magnetic knife holders just tend to look a lot cooler than wooden holders, especially if you're looking to create a more modern kitchen. If you want your kitchen to stand out, or if you simply want to add an extra flourish, a magnetic knife holder can do the job.

About Me
Making the Most of Small Spaces: A Remodeling Blog

Hi, my name is Amanda. Two years ago, I was feeling extremely cramped in my small home, and I knew I couldn't afford to sell it and move. Plus, I loved my neighbours. To make this small space work for my family, I hired a contractor to remodel the house. He helped us convert our small cozy space into a more open, functional space. He helped us maximise the space so we were using everything from the floor to the ceiling. While watching him work, I got a lot of remodeling ideas. I also did a lot of research leading up to our project. If you are in the same boat, I invite you to explore this space. This blog is going to have everything related to remodeling a small space to make the most of it.
